If you like street fair, this is the best one in France (maybe Europe) It is huuuuuge, so focus on what you want : professional sellers -> Grand Place, Antiquaire -> Parc JB Lebas, individuals -> Citadelle. The atmosphere is really friendly and you can shop until dawn. Then you can party all night long. To avoid very very crowded... More

The reputation of this braderie is way beyond its merit. True, Lille is taken over by miles and miles of stalls and there is a very wide variety of old items on sale but the cliché that you can find anything here is completely untrue unless you are looking for a thousand varieties of tat. Much of the periphery is... More

The first weekend in September the city of Lille becomes a giant car boot sale or for the Americans a giant yard sale! The tradition goes back to medieval times, and is organized by the city. You can either set up a stand in front of your property or the city allocates a space to set up your stand (often... More

You will find the most amazing things you never knew existed. However, avoid main roads in the centre on Saturday afternoon if you can't stand crowds. Don't wear your best clothes or smart shoes. There are no taxis into town to or from the station because the roads are closed. Be prepared to walk some distance along uneven cobbled streets.... More

This is a tremendous amount of fun if you like flea markets and can deal with crowds. Would love to do it again someday.

Wow! The Braderie gets bigger every year. We had a fantastic but very busy weekend bargain hunting throughout the streets of Lille. The stalls, of which there are miles and miles, range from typical bootsale to high priced antiques, and from market traders to expensive shop sales. The crowds sometimes make it difficult to move freely and the street music... More

We have just returned from our 12th yearly trip to the Braderie in Lille.Usually on the 1st weekend of September it is an amazing experience. However like all large attractions it is best to take advice before you go.Stay away from the main streets, these are more markets.Wander around the quieter back streets where individual sellers are, these are genuine not... My friend and I have just returned from our third visit to the Braderie. What an amazing experience. We stay Thursday to Monday as many stalls are open during this period. The first year we took the Eurostar but were limited to the amound of purchases we could bring home. The last couple of years we have travelled by car... More

I had been looking forward to going to the braderie for years. It is frankly way too big, and the vast majority of the stalls are selling typical market fodder. With 2 million people on the streets, if you do want to buy anything of any size, getting it home or to your hotel would be a nightmare. We were... More

The Braderie in Lille is renowned for being the largest flea market in Europe. With over 60km of stands, and over 10,000 stall holders it would be impossible to see the whole market in the 36 odd hours that it is open. Therefore - plan ahead ! Do a bit of research and make sure you are spending time in... More
