Two adjoining buildings which somehow survived the devastation of the city, worth a glance as you pass by, only really notable as so little else survives. The city had to be largely rebuilt after the war, so they have quite some excuse, but this just...More

Considering how much of Caen was lost during the war, it is still striking each time we see these homes and the contrast of the modern shops and shopping street below. Locals likely don’t notice them anymore, but they helped us imagine what the whole...More

We were in Caen and while touring saw these extremely old buildings. The wooden architecture is most amazing.

This timber-framed building is much more impressive than La Maison des Quatrans. The wooden construction with wood carving ornaments are simply unique!

It's not easy to miss these houses, as they are right next to the Chateau de Caen. They are the oldest houses in the city, and there's a plaque nearby explaining the history. However, there's not much to see besides to take a quick picture.

It will take you 2 minutes, but take the time to look for these houses from another time. So beautiful and rare.

If you are walking around the city, it is nice to see, maybe stop take a picture and voila.. but it is not worth going to Caen just to see this facade. If you happen to see it, good, if not, you will miss nothing...More

Taking into account the WW2 history of this city coming across these buildings was a reward in itself. Taken out of Caen they may be considered unremarkable. Worthy of a small detour.
