Required Visit for Visiting Avignon
Nov 2021 • Couples
It's not quite as grand as you might imagine. You can book ahead of time but it's not really required. Each ticket is 12 euro. You can opt for the histopad which gives more background. Otherwise there are several info boards and relics to describe the history of the place but nearly all of the are completely in french. There are two different tour routes. You can do both in a reasonable time. Overall, some of the murals and structures are impressive but not overly so. Still worth a visit.

history of the Catholic church
Oct 2021
This is of course a must visit place when in Avignon. The history of the Palais, home to seven popes in the 14th and 15th century, is well worth exploring. The entrance fee includes a tablet ("Histopad") which will give you the history of as well as architectural details of each room and each hall of the Palais you visit - it's very interesting, as well as very educational.

Too many rocks and stairs!
Oct 2021
I am a history fan, but this was too much for us. After about 1/2 hour we left the building. We were both bored with their presentations, which is not normally the case. It may have been the crowd of people in each of the rooms, but we just did not enjoy the visit.

Been there, bought the teeshirt.....

The now denuded and difficult to navigate for the elderly who constitute most of the tourist brigade this is a must see on the tourist route of the city. The home of the papacy for most of the fourteenth and early fifteenth centuries whose inhabitants were a low benchmark for those who came before and many immediately after the Avignon captivity as it became known is now mainly revered for the appelation Chateauneuf du Pape appropriated by a group of nearby vineyards. The palace itseld is a tick box if you must but there are better ways to spend two hours and the energy if you have a limited supply, like us!

Very well re done , the guide set was good too except for lack of holster which meant you had to carry it so photography was difficullt. Some of the art work in the chapels was stunning allow a few hours to bimble round.

What a great place to see! Had an informative tour guide - it is hard to imagine what a beautiful palace this was back in the 14th century.

Stunningly restored
Sep 2021
The site of the Avignon papacy has been restored and is well worth the visit for both those who are interested in medieval architecture or Catholic history.
There are, however, lots of stairs so be prepared. There are benches along the way to rest.
Well worth the visit

Palace of Pope
Sep 2021 • Friends
Were glad to see how well the Pope is. Palace is good maintain. 17 euro is not much, but the people of avignon is expected to be free of visit. The garden is smoll, much of the decor are gone. Use off the tablet can seem to see alikes the old days. If you been in Vatican palace, this is nothing at all.
Avignon self is wonderful day and night. Worthy of visit 2 days. Garden outside and surrounding areas is place to see.

Disappointing visit
Sep 2021
Large part of Palais not accessible. Only the very large rooms were available so no access to towers, Papal dwellings, kitchens etc.

Very impressive
Aug 2021 • Couples
I’m very impressive Palais, in architecture and in size, is definitely a must see. I’ve read many of the reviews here, and based on them we had enjoyed the outside only. during these Covid times we try to enjoy the outdoor spaces mainly. The square outside the palace is a very busy one, with street performances, little trains taking off visitors on tours, and many tourists resting on stone curbs. We had walked through the park to the top viewing area of the Avignon bridge, enjoyed the incredible view with hardly anyone there.
