About
This emblematic site in the history of Avignon is known throughout the world in the famous song. Built in the 12th century, it was destroyed several times by spates on the Rhone River, before being rebuilt and finally abandoned in the 17th century.

Crazy History of an Iconic Structure
Nov 2021 • Couples
It was worth visiting the bridge to read the history (and listen to the audio guide) of this strange construction. Because it has been the subject of such attention, and even song, it was fun to learn about it’s colorful past. And the views of the river and the city are excellent. Definitely take the free audio guide.

The bridge was cool enough with some decent views but not a required visit location. It costs 5 euro and is a 10 minute walk downstairs from the palace. It only takes 15-30 minutes or so to see though.

"Sur le pont d'Avignon"
Oct 2021
I am tempted to say that this "is just another bridge", which in addition stops abruptly in the middle of the Rhone river. But then you have to factor in the history of the place, the song "sur le Pont d'Avignon" ( which we had adapted to our daughter's name when she was a toddler), etc. ...... nice views of the bridge from the garden above the Palais des Papes.

We danced on the Pont d'Avignon
Oct 2021
My wife was born in Europe and has always wanted to see the bridge in Avignon because of her childhood song of "Pont d'Avignon." We all know the tune but I had never associated it with this 1000 year old bridge. As in the song, we danced on the Pont d'Avignon. It made her very happy! And the part of the bridge that still remains is a marvel of Saint-Benezet's dreams of what God told him to build.

Bridge that our old French teacher used to say Orny danced on Orny danced on...Worth seeing as you passed on the river as we did on our trip and in the coach but not necessarily passing otherwise if you grudge the mild E5 for a historic thrill. Nuff said. Move on.

Covid friendly to start then masks off on the bridge despite notices to the contrary. Great bit of construction to be admired given when it was built , more to it than you think. Dont forget to dance

Very nice walk, some stairs to see the bridge. Vax cards required. Good audio tour free. Could be windy. Nice views of walled city.

Only got to see this briefly while on a tour of the Palace of the Popes inside the city. If I ever get back here, I will walk this bridge.

Too hot in August
Aug 2021 • Couples
during our visit in August, the temperatures ranged between 32 and 40 Celsius, it was hot even in the shade. We could only stand five minutes on the bridge - it was absolutely scorching hot and frankly the view is much better from the park next to the cathedral.
