Created in 1989, this one-of-a-kind museum is situated

in the symbolic City of Grasse, the cradle of the luxury

perfume trade which began in France.

Dedicated to one of the most prestigious traditional French businesses,

the International Perfume Museum, a public institution awarded by

the <<Museum of France>> label, is devoted to safeguarding and

promoting the international heritage of scents, aromas and perfumes.

Museum visitors will also discover the unique history of the great

perfume Houses and producers.

Bearing witness to the international technical, aesthetic, social and

cultural history of the tradition of using scents, the museum covers

every aspect of the history of fragrance through an anthropological

approach including raw materials, manufacture, industry, innovation,

business, design, and customs -through very diverse forms-

decorative arts, textiles, archaeological finds and unique industrial

items

if you are visiting in Nice, do not forget Grasse! It´s absolute lovely place, a very small old village. What a landscape! Diamond in Grasse is international perfume museum. There´s is lot to see about beauty business, history and today. Honestly I think museum is especially for women :)

As a man the attraction of entering such a museum did not overwhelm me. However two and half hours later I left with a feeling of an afternoon well spent. There is the right mixture of history and science to keep everyone happy. Don't be put off by the unusual entrance because inside it modern, light and surprisingly large. I could... More

The museum failed my expectations because it is much more about (the history of) the perfume industry and its parafinalia, then about scent and actual sensory input. There is some of that, but it gets lost in the overwhelming presence of historical distractions.

The entrance door is rather unprepossessing, but what opens beyond that portal is a triumph of a holistic views of the commodities. Archaeology, history, social history, design, art, commerce, farming, chemical extraction and synthetic are merged with style and impact. And if the visuals don't grab you (unlikely!), then the aromatic sensing points will stay with you after you leave.... More

Beautiful Lalique glass perfumes bottles were an additional surprise. Nice visit, needs a coffee shop so that those that were a little more interested could have the time to look at all exhibits. The tree of perfume roots was very interesting and there are plenty of interactive things to try. Opportunity to smell different scents, including farmyards!!! Maybe not as... More

I truly enjoyed the experience of visiting the museum, from the production of perfumes, to the local history and smelling different fragrance, it is a good activity for the day in the city of perfumes.

We took the local bus in order to get there and it was a bit complicated, but once we arrived , we liked the museum, especially the sensory room.

Caught the train to Grasse to visit here, be warned it is really not well sign posted from the station. Eventually after walking around for almost an hour we found it. Lots of interactive displays, lots of nice natural smells like vanilla, strawberries etc and also has a nice little garden with plenty of chairs. It took about just under... More
