After taking the Zest bus #7 from Menton towards a Gorbio (1.50€) I was pleasantly surprised by the Serre de la Madone gardens. It's approximately 15 acres and filled with many rare and unusual flowers. There is Italian sculptures, an orangery, kiosks, and water features. For flower lovers this garden is well worth the bus ride.

Not to be missed. Especially of interest to visitors to Hidcote in England. Another Laurence Johnson garden.

An interesting garden with tiers up to a lovely water garden and house. It's being restored & doesn't show all of its original glory but still worth a visit. We went in September, not the height of flower season though there were some lovely, fragrant blooms & not many other people about. Bring a picnic and find a comfortable bench... More

Despite being the end of the season, we were charmed by this garden. I go for experience over information, preferring to seek out the names of things that take my fancy. We did not therefore opt for the tour but found much to delight the senses, including the layout and the terraces with, variously, lily ponds, orangerie, decorative cobbling, the... More

Visited in the morning when there were very few visitors. The park is in the heights of Menton and are layered with terraces. It is extremely beautiful and very peaceful. There was a group meditation class going on when we were there. Looks like locals enjoy going there to relax and enjoy. There are many small alleyways which are fun... More

I would recommend the guided visit because of the incredible amount of facts one learns from the gardener/guide is amazing. There is a possibility of having a drink and car parking on site so it makes it very accessible.

Hidcote Garden (designed by Lawrence Johnston) in Gloucestershire is one of our favourite gardens, so when we planned to visit Menton a trip Serre de la Madone had to be top of our list. To see Lawrence Johnston's French garden was a lovely experience. You slowly climb up the site to the house at the top of the hill, with... More

Some years ago, during the Menton Classical Music Festival, young musicians and a Master where studyng and playing. Music at the Serre de la Madonne is a paradisiac... More

It's a beautiful garden. The tour is self directed, some picturesque areas. Easily reached by public transportation, the road is very curvy not suitable for walking. Bring water!!! Bug spray if it's grey and cloudy!!

A visit to this garden is not because it is a pretty garden but because of its historical context of having been created by Lawrence Johnston who created Hidcote. After having been seriously neglected over many years it is now being restored and is a pleasure for its interesting and challenging layout and vast array of rare plants collected from... More
