Family Matinee on Sunday is Excellent

Treated to Carmen at the Opera in Nice. Wonderful performance, but sadly could not stay for the second part because the seating was unbelievably uncomfortable. Probably the worst I have ever experienced. Possibly ok for a short legged teenager, but not for a retired, medium height person. On the fifth floor, called (somewhat misleadingly) the Amphitheatre, the red velvet covered... More

I somehow came across the information for the Sunday matinee for families so I made sure to take my two children (ages 3 and 7) when we visited Nice last week. This was such a treat. The building is absolutely stunning and the kids loved sitting in the theater and listening to the orchestra. It was about an hour, which... More

Literally! The building is beautiful but old and badly needs air-conditioning (among other modern fixtures) You start to realize why ladies kept fans and dressed lightly in good old times, it's so stuffy that you can only hope to survive through three, let alone four acts. P.S. Been there again - nothing changes. Even the conductor had to leave his... More

Great building and good acoustics but do NOT sit in one of the top two levels. There are not seats, just benches which are extremely uncomfortable and have NO leg room, even if you are 5'4. Besides that, they move you over and squish you in so that there is no space. Spend the money to get an actual CHAIR.... More

I booked tickets for a special occasion. We arrived at the venue shortly before the concert started and the doors were shut. The venue would not pick up the phone and so I called the opera house direct. The man who answered the phone could not have been less helpful. Very disappointing end to our holiday. Let's hope they have... More

Only seen outside, as the opera was in holiday during the summer months. It is a great neo classical building. It would be better if it had some square in front of the main entrance, so the building would be visible in its full beauty.

I did not go inside, but the outside looks remarkably . Located in the old town near the market and promenade des Angles.

I'm definitely an opera lover and never miss an opportunity to visit a new opera house. My experience at Opéra de Nice was great: my husband and I have been there twice during this visit: first, for attending the performance of the French Opéra La Juive, by French composer Halévy; second, for a Gala Night. The building is gorgeous, located... More

I went to Opera de Nice for a short concert, including the works of Bizet, Verdi etc. Besides the quality of the music, I was happy to discover that students always pay 5 euro, no matter the "real price". I find it really motivating to come back at least once per month. However, apparently I was still the only student.

This lovely opera house offers terrific opportunities for classical music lovers. In the past, some productions were marred by unpleasant, controversial staging. A new director is coming, fall 2016! Put this experience on your agenda!
