Didn't expect much of this Citadelle but there were interesting rooms with sculptures and also outside sculptures. And many rooms and large grounds which were not evident from the outside.

We saw a lovely sculpture display by Voeti. The placement of the sculpture arount the citadelle was beautifully done. The garden and views where worth seeing as well.

A must to see. Very enjoyable, a walk about walled fortress. We arrived on a day when the local children were singing in a choir..a truely magical experience

We really enjoyed our visit here. There's so much to see and it's all free. The staff are friendly and very helpful. One would need at least two hours to see everything. There's also a beautiful terrace garden with great views of the harbour.

Interesting little museums very close to the harbour. Even in the middle of summer we were some of the only people there

This old fortress is a box of treasures, military museums , statues and gardens to explore. The views over the harbour and out to sea are fab and if you have a camera there is plenty to snap. This is not a historic ruin , there is also the town hall, a theatre and a number of galleries . Look... More

There are a few nice (and free) museums in Citadel St. Elmo and I especially liked Volti Museum (adult audience only). Don't go out of your way to get there but it's a fine place if you're visiting Villefranche.

Plan over an hour, much to see because you're entering various museums while touring an old fortress. Has many nooks, tunnels, underground passageways which are museums, also has a beautiful views and gardens and they show movies outdoors sometimes. Make sure you've wandered down every walkway and explored every entryway. If it isn't marked do not enter or no passage... More
