The town hall, built in 1656, is a beautiful example of the civil architecture of the end of the 17th century. Marseille's council has met here since the Middle Ages. Today, it houses the offices of the mayor, municipal councillors and other administrative offices.

located along the riverside on the harbour, the Hotel de Ville will for sure catch your eye, as it is one of very few old buildings there. An interesting fassade, but nothing more.

This fashionable Late Baroque style building was constructed between 1653-73 and is the only structure on the old port of Marseille that survived the destruction of WW II. The new town hall was commissioned by the Sun King Louis XIV (1638-1715) and designed by Sculptor/Architect...More

I missed this the first time I walked by. It is a pretty building and during the Christmas season it has a light show.

The City Hall was completed in 1673 in the Genoan Baroque style, built from Couronne pink stone. Its bust of King Louis XIV on the façade is a historical symbol of royal power. Worth a look.

The 17th Century Marseille Hôtel de Ville (City Hall) is an excellent example of Neo-Baroque architecture. There are three floors. It was the only building on the harbor to survive the destruction of World War 2.

This is a grand old building. At first sight you might think it's just an old building with nothing special about it. However we are really fascinated by such grand old buildings. They have a charm all of their own. Their architecture is just beautiful....More

One of the most imposing buildings on the harbour front, climb the stairs to the left side of it to go up to Le Panier - Old Town for great views.

I must say that it galls me when people complain about an old building not being "much of an attraction". What do they expect - video games, fruit machines and fairground rides for the kids? It's an old building. It doesn't need to be anything...More

This building is not really an attraction! Indeed, it is closed to the public (I guess it's because of all the corruption but whatever). However, it has a beautiful baroque architecture
