This is a small museum with interesting information about the silk industry, its organization and labor, in Lyon, which was a major center for silk. The shop has an extensive collection of lovely silk scarves.More

Dear Isabel089, Actually, we are more a workshop than a museum. That's why we have got 2 guided tours a day, in which we open our workshop for a demonstration if weaving on a Jacquard hand loom. And all our product in our chop are...More

This is worth a visit if you are in Lyon as it reveals the importance of the silk trade to Lyon's history. The displays are informative and the artefacts are well-preserved. The silk goods on sale are very expensive.

It seems the Maison des Canuts is not widely known and it's a pity because the experience is unforgettable: old silk threading machine in action, demo, and a room about the highs and low of the history of the Canuts (silk workers). Lyon has been...More

Dear MattZurich, We are a workshop and not a museum. So, during our guided tour, we open it for a demonstration of weaving and explain everything about the French sillk history from 1536 to nowadays. Regards, La Maison des Canuts

Excellent representation of working life in bygone days. The host of this demonstration was very good and knew his trade well. Well worth the visit

There are 2 guided tours only a day, thus if you miss them, you are on your own. At least there are also explanations in other languages then French. There is also a store but rather expensive.

Can you tell me how far the museum is from where Avalon docks their ships? Could I walk or would I need to take a cab? We will be in Lyon May 5th and your museum is at the top of my list of things to see. Thank you
