The Museum of Contemporary Art, designed by Renzo Piano, is located near the Tête d'Or park, at the Cité Internationale. From its creation, the museum has opted for an original acquistions policy of temporary exhibitions, developed in direct relation with the artists or from works in their collection.Whether for a Roller Coaster by the artist, Cai Guo-Qiang, a “Crying Wall” by Ann Hamilton, or a Salt Water Pool by Mathieu Briand, the museum transforms itself for each artistic project and thus offers a completely different visit every time. This means that the museum closes for short durations between each exhibition.

Standing out among the uniform buildings of Cite Internationale this museum was built by Renzo Piano. The inside is completely flexible, thus it can be adapted for any kind of work and the visitor finds a 'new' museum every time he/she comes on three levels. Current exhibit is on Los Angeles including work by Ed Rucha, David Hockney and many... More

The MAC of Lyon has temporary exhibitions on three stories. If you live in Lyon for a longer period, Carte Musée gets you one year access to six museums (MAC, Beaux Arts , ...) for the price of three admissions.

I came here not knowing what exhibit was showing or that there is no permanent collection, but I was happy nonetheless. The Yoko Ono exhibit was wonderful - playful and interactive, but also gave an insight into her life in great depth. Your enjoyment of the museum will depend on what exhibit is showing, but I can say that staff... More

I love modern art but this museum is a scam. The ONLY thing exhibited was Yoko Ono's temporary exhibition. I personally did not like it and I do not consider this art. Every one can do these kind of installations. More importantly, they did not warn me at the ticket office that there is not any permanent collection. And I... More

I wouldn't recommend the Contemporary Art Museum, it's expensive and feels half empty for what it is. If you are in the 6th go to the park or the cinema in Cite instead- most of the films are in English!

I only visited this museum once, when they hosted Yoko Ono. I loved the exhibition and I loved the display.

I had high hopes for this museum situated beside the lovely Parc de la Tête d'Or. Unfortunately, the museum is limited. The permanent display had been put on loan to make space for Yoko Ono exhibit. Not being a fan of Ms. Ono's...I didn't find value in the 9E entry fee. There are better contemporary art museums to be found.

The day we visited, there was a run in Lyon shutting down the buses. We trekked 2 miles across town to see this museum. My husband liked it more than me. I would not have crossed the street to see it!
