Great atmosphere, beautiful and peaceful with the best scenery and wonderfully friendly German hospitality. We enjoyed true Freiburger sausages and the tastiest fresh fruit. Cathedral is under renovation and we, unfortunately missed out on some beautiful scenes. Inside the Alter and lovely stained glass (with the sunshine on the outside) windows and great organ music is a must for every... More

We took a weekend break in Freiburg to see the Christmas markets which start in the 3rd week of November - and we got more than what we had anticipated. At first sight, Freiburg looked like any mid sized city, but once we started exploring the old town, beginning with Munsterplatz, we discovered a historical town full of old buildings... More

The cathedral sits in the middle of here. It's a good place to orient yourself in the old town. Lined with shops and restaurants.

On the October day that I visited, there was a market around the Freiburg Munster. One could find anything from fresh fruit, vegetables, and flowers. Also, I found a beautiful hand carved box by Matthias Joos. Then, we visited the inside of the Munster and went shopping in this university town. The shopping was great at the market and in... More

We really enjoyed spending a couple of hours in the Munsterplatz. Beautiful and historical environment with the gigantic cathedral in the middle. All kinds of delicates, sausages especially for the meat livers.

Adjacent to the cathedral, this market is open most mornings through lunchtime. Great fresh food, flowers, local crafts. The row of sausage vendors is great. Generally offering 4 or so types of local sausage - fried or grilled - in bread for around 2 Euros. Wonderful taste sensation.

The munsterplatz is the heart of old town with the cathedral in the middle and several other impressive structures surrounding it such as the Kaufhaus. The morning we were here, they had many vans lined up outside the cathedral selling local delicacies such as curry wursts, lebarkase and other sausages.
