Even though our tour guide was not the best ( arranged by our river cruise company ) the info we did learn from his talk was very interesting. This castle built for a couple who, although the marriage was arranged, really seemed to love each other has romantic touches. As the story is being told you are somewhat transported back... More

Uninteresting castle/chateau. The funicular makes the trip worthwhile. Go to the top. Great view, nice history in the old second part of the trip up.

Although Heidelberg Castle was destroyed by fire in 17th century, the magnificent red sandstone ruin is still the most famous attraction in the city. It perched 330 feet above the river to give you the breathtaking views of the oldest university town.

Visited Heidelberg castle city today . What a pity we could see the ruins from a distance only . Last time in 2006 I had seen the castle from near The river is beautiful and so are the houses across the river . The main square is very nice.

Before heading to the castle, pick up a "Heidelberg Card" at one of the tourist information centers. It's good for free public transportation and entrance to the castle. Ride the cable car up to the castle (included in the Heidelberg Card) and spend some time in the gardens, climb up on top of the largest wine barrel in the world,... More

We were staying in Frankfurt and booked a half day tour of Heidelberg. The tour was great and it included touring the castle. There is so much to see at the castle- architecture, history, etc. We just happened to show up right after a group of 2,000 people so we couldn't wait in line for the tram- we ended up... More

The tour was very interesting. So much information and history you wouldn't not get from walking around. We went with young children who got a bit bored towards the end though.
