Very nice little path that takes you along the Neckar River with a pretty view from the mountain. If the weather is nice you can take a stop at the garden with all its flowers and have a wonderful view on the castle.

Nice long walk about the city noise, I started at the Saturday Farmers Market and slowly walked uphill (I did not want to take the stairs straight up) Beautiful views of river and all of Heidelburg. I continued walking to the Monestary.

We entered the trail by walking up steps immediately across the street from the Old Heidelberg Bridge (walking from the city center). I would say it was about 300 steps up(?) I had 30 lb bag on my back (photography gear); I'm 6'1" and it...More

Nice route to have a walk, relax in nature, and have a conversation. Also, you have a beautiful view on the Karl Theodore bridge, as well as on the castle...

Our hotel owner advised us to do our town centre and castle explorings in the morning and save this walk until the afternoon as by then the sun would be behind you as you take your pictures of the castle. That's what we did and...More

We brought our 1 year old on a stroller on both occasions. There are 2 ways up, either via the west which was stroller friendly, or from the old bridge. Go in the late afternoon for better picture opportunities.

In my opinion, this place has the best views you can find in Heidelberg. Yes, much better, than the castle, because from there you can also see the castle itself. I would recommend going there, even if you have only one day. Amazing photos guaranteed!

A friend who used to live in Heidelberg recommended we see it (the town and the castle) from the other side of the Neckar river before visiting the castle. I agree this is a great way to see Heidelberg, if you have the time! You...More

It isn't that difficult, but someone with health issues or balance may have some trouble negotiating the trail. It goes up about 25 floor from the start, and the cobblestones can be a bit uneven. I strongly encourage the effort, though, and definitely a great...More

The only thing I would recommend, if doing this in winter, is to make sure you have shoes with good soles and grip. We found the paved areas and stairs a little slippery, especially as it had been raining. It was still worth... More
