I can't just review the Thingstätte, but the whole walk to get there, the sights along the way and the feelings it can give. Start at the Theodor-Heuss Brücke in Heidelberg, looking out to the castle on your right, with Königstuhl rising up behind it....More

It takes 60-90 minutes to get there from the city center and the path is`nt well signed. After arrival you will find an unattractive place. Save your time and visit better places in Heidelberg.

I️ saw the Thingstatte in a thick, soupy fog, late in the day. This amphitheater built into a thickly forested hillside and is not to be missed. It is easy to imagine the fires burning as thousands listen to the Nazi propaganda speeches on the...More

Well maintained outdoor arena from the 1930's. One could just imagine the Nazi rallies there. It is well-maintained and is probably used for concerts to this day. Easy walk from the parking lot by St. Stephen's monastery ruins (where there is a magnificent view of...More

This is a open-air theatre built by the Nazis, modeled after an ancient Greek thater. When you walk up the stairs you get a somewhat eerie feeling. If you close your eyes you can almost see the swastika flags and high-ranking Nazis gathering some 80yrs...More

This was a bit of a hike up the mountainside and it was not as clearly signed as we were led to believe (by stone markers), however, after asking a couple of lovely helpful runners on the way we managed to find it and it...More

It is a bit of a trek to get there (on foot) but there is a road up there if you want to get the taxi. The amphitheatre is open-air on the Heiligenberg and was built during the Third Reich for performances and events. It...More

This amphitheater had been built by the National Socialists but seldom used. We found it a nice target for our trail up the hills on the other side of the Neckar (when looking from Heidelberg)

Up the hill on the other side of Heidelberg you find this amphi theater, that was build by the Nazi's for propaganda purposes. It is still in great shape and has 8.000 seats. It is worth visiting and it is a pity it is almost...More

Climbing up the Philosphenweg and making our way to an old monastery on the top of the Heiligenberg we bumped into the Thingstätte right underneath the "peak" in a natural well. Built in the 30s of the past century it appears like an ancient amphitheatre...More

We used Google Maps to find the end of the road near the parking lot and dropped a pin. It is up through a neighborhood and when you star getting close there are signs. I am not sure the locals want you to find it. There... More
