Something new and different. Helps you yo understand the students struggle in the past. It was a great experience and i really recommend going there with family or friends. Doing this activity may only take 1 hour or less so its great to do something...More

Our ticket to the Student Jail, interesting itself, plus the university museum and a visit to one of the most beautiful teaching rooms I have ever seen. Definitely worth the 3 euro entry!

The idea of a student “jail” came about in the 1800s and stays open until the first world war. Students who committed minor offenses (noise, alcohol behavior...) were allowed to attend classes, but had to pass nights in the “karzer” for a few hours to...More

This is a cool little place to visit! It takes about a half hour to tour. There is a lot of graffiti, which makes for cool pictures. You learn why the students were placed in this jail. Teenagers and college kids would like this!

The "Karzer" which is an old german word for jail, was actually a jail of unruly students. There are several prison cells with a guardian table. The partly artistic and original inscriptions on the walls are amusing. Its worth a visit to come here.

We had no idea that the university used to have complete control over the behaviour of its students in this manner! It is the university that used to judge the students and decide of their punishment. And the writing and drawing on the walls are...More

Oops....the experiment that went wrong! This idea of a student “jail” came about in the 1600s. Students who committed minor offenses were allowed to attend classes and college functions, but had to spend the nights in the “karzer” for a few days to a few...More

Pretty easy to find, just ask the local students. Takes less than 30 minutes to get in and out. The story behind it and the history dating back hundreds of years is very cool, especially as the University was opened before America was even discovered.

This is sort of interesting to enjoy walking around the charming old city. The “graffiti” is probably more interesting if your German is good. We looked around briefly, read the one explanation of the place that was in English, and shrugged. If you have other...More

The prison is an amusing small museum to visit and was not very serious place for locking up noisy and disruptive partying students of the gay young things era. There are entertaining drawings and graffiti in rooms and on staircases ,walls and ceilings over a...More

Not really--It's a very old building with a rather dark staircase and 3 or 4 flights. If you mobility restricted, this would be very difficult. But there are so many other fantastic things to see and do in Heidelberg! Enjoy!
