Schloss Mannheim shares it´s physical space with the University of Mannheim and was undergoing renovations during my visit. As a castle freak and a photographer, I was expecting a larger area to tour and to photograph. The time required to tour was short and sweet. And, it cost an extra 4 euros (for a total of 10 euros) to use... More

This is a castle that has been converted into a University. The middle section is still castle. There are three rooms that I think are simply amazing. You get a hand held your guide with admission. It speaks in English too. However, you have to pay extra if you want to be able to take your own photos. The building... More

Was part of a educational program at the University of Mannheim. The palace is huge and is well kept. Great place to be educated at.

Beautiful palace! My family and I visited on a cold, rainy day, and it turned out to be perfect. The tour is fairly short, probably not more than an hour and a half, and the palace was basically empty so we got to enjoy the experience free to roam and not be packed into spaces like sardines with hundreds of... We drove through some serious road restrictions and traffic jams (stau for those that speak German) to find this place. We drove by it twice before we found a place to park. We ended up parking in a small lot next to the palace next to an indoor hockey rink on the university property for free, always a bonus in... More

The castle was heavily destroyed during the last world war, but the curator made the smart choice to stage it to evoke life as it was for the court. The good explanation of the audioguide - in English - serve that purpose well.

The castle has been renovated and now hosts the university of Mannheim. What a great location for studying here. Once a year at the beginning of September (usually 2nd or 3rd weekend in Sept) there is the legendary Schlossfest with free admission, great music and live bands, a nice firework that lasts till about 2am.

Schloss Mannheim is the second largest Baroque palace in Europe and walking around it on the outside it is indeed huge! But it's impact is lessened a bit by it being in the middle of the city and surrounded by motorways and train tracks (like, a few meters from the windows a train rattled past!). For such a large palace,... More
