The museum has been entirely revamped. Not much is left from the previous objects and documents. Nice to visit, some documents are interesting to read, but apart from that, the museum is rather empty and does not - at least to me - convey a Wagneresque ambiance.

The Richard Wagner Museum complex includes the new museum itself, the restored Villa Wahnfried, and the Siegfried Wagner house. An English audio guide is available that covers all three. The new museum includes a fabulous collection of historical set design models, displays of costumes from various eras, listening stations for recordings of excerpts from notable performances, and other exhibits. Worth allowing plenty of time for House, museum and a coffee break. The basement of the Museum has some impressive high tech, as well as part of Wagners library - the Saga and myth section of his collection. Lovely visit, friendly staff.

Excellent museum with the modern building particularly notable. I could have spent the whole day in the sound archive room but the model sets and costumes were fascinating. The house itself has been rebuilt following bomb damage and has some very interesting rooms. A must see for all Wagnerites!

I saw Wahnfried several years ago and again now after the remodel. The new building--quite striking and Bauhaus looking--housing the museum store and small cafe is nice and the attendants are friendly. The shop does not have a lot of interesting souvenirs. I agree Wahnfried should avoid tacky items but many Wagner fans do want a souvenir of their visit... More

The Wagner museum is located a few minutes walk from the pedestrian zone. They provide an audio guide in multiple languages, as well as guided tours. It consists of 3 buildings each with a different focus. The new museum houses the performance history of the Bayreuth Festival. Here you can see costumes of different performance as well as the set... More

The new part is modern and very interesting, try the place with headphones selecting bit of his operas, not only from Bayreuth. The sound is terrific. The old house of Wagner itself has a nice history line of his life and operas on the first floor, the ground floor is naturally important because this was Wagners room to entertain guest.... More

We have been before to visit the main Wagner house ( Wahnfried ) and to walk in the garden but this year the new museum building has been completed and is now open. The building is architecturally excellent - very striking in a somewhat Bauhaus style . The display in the rooms is rather limited but very interesting - costumes... More
