A sheer climb up to the top

Good walks at the top, and refreshments. The views are amazing. You can stand in either Austria or Germany on your walk at the top.

We've never had such a terrible bergbahn experience in the region. Generally they are a highlight. Not this one. 1) Costs were 26 Euro round trip per person. + 3 Euro deposit (better to remember to get that back at the end of your journey. ) 2) The restaurant at the top was a solid Terrible. We waited 30 minutes... More

If you are a walker, the Karwendelbahn may disappoint, as, apart from the dangerous looking 3 hour track to the bottom, there is a 20 minute rim walk from the top. The view is stark ie it is rocky and mountainous withou very much green. Nevertheless, it is worth doing. However, if you are looking for a nice walk in... More

First, if you have a fear of heights or crowded spaces, maybe this isn't for you. But otherwise, it's very cool. The gondola takes you up to the top of the Karwendalspitz where a number of trails go up and around the mountain. The views to the south are terrific. There's a great visitor center up there, and a restaurant. The... More

Took the 25 person gondola to the top then walked the short circular route. The walk was possible in unsuitable shoes despite the disapproving looks from people with stout shoes and walking poles.

Look for late evening schedule to enjoy sunset up there. Go to the table as early as 1800 to watch sunset while dinning. Only 5 tables are suited for that.

We travelled to the top of the mountain via the cable car from Mittenwald, the ride was very good and the car not too full. The journey takes about ten minutes to travel bout a thousand meters from ground level which is already 900 metres above sea level. The journey was smooth and the accomplished driver stopped the swing immediately... More

We hiked up the back of the Karwendel (routes 271 and 270). I must say it was a great hike up and well worth it. Once at the top, we did then walk around...We were extremely lucky as it was a clear day and the views were spectacular. The giant telescope at the top is really cool and we enjoyed... More

We had the opportunity to stand at the top of the Alps overlooking bavarian towns. We stood at the border of Germany and Austria on top of the world. The views are magnificent. Well worth the experience! It is one of those bucket list sort of things.

We had just hiked up to the summit and took the Karwendelbahn down to save our knees, and although it wasn't cheap it was a great end to a fun hike. The cable car inspired confidence, and the bergstation at the top was very luxurious.
