We came up from the "Partnach-Klamm" through the "Kälbersteig". An exhausting 3 hours climb with about 900 meters height difference in a wonderful landscape. The small castle of king Ludwig II you can only visit from June to September. But it is worth the visit....More

Getting up to Mad King Ludwig's mountain retreat takes some effort (on foot or bike are the only options) but it is "oh so worth it". Konigshaus and the nearby Linderhof are the only 2 residences he actually finished and used, and both shed a...More

It does take some effort indeed to get there, but it´s worth it! From Elmau it´s up to 4 hours walking and I suggest to take a break at Wettersteinalm. t´s just one of many of King Ludwig´s palaces, but the view from up there...More

Walked from Elmau, steeping than it looks in photos and took us 4 hrs. Views fab, Konigshaus amazing definitely worth the hike. We stayed overnight in the Schachenhaus. It's a bit basic but there is running water, the food is reasonable but the beer is...More

Did the "kings way" from Elmau. Really recommendable, we did the "enhanced" version with the steep hike after the Wettersteinalm plus the Kälbersteig down. You need good hiking shoes and water/food. We did the hike in 5h net.

My husband and I decided to take this hike based on the fact that we thought it was gonna be about 6 hours roundtrip. I think that's based off of if you take no stops and you keep a steady pace. The whole hike is...More

Quite astonishing views from King Ludwig's summer folly. Don't even try it if you are unfit or suffer from vertigo. This is a serious hike uphill which will take about 5 hours from the Olympic ski station. It is worth it but you need proper...More

We walked a round-about way, which ended up being 17 miles and 1 mile vertical. We followed the road to Reintal after the gorge, which was pretty slight but steady incline; then straight up the back of the mountain at Schachen. I'll attach the gps...More
