A small, but accessible museum, just off the road south out of town, dedicated to the life of the composer. We especially enjoyed the small figures used to stage the operas, with cut-outs for the curtains, backdrops, and set pieces for the stage. There was a room downstairs where you could listen to an old-fashioned CD changer to hear major... More

What a place. This town is so picturesque. I can't wait to go back next year. Everything is within walking distance. No car needed.

The former home of Richard Strauss, now run as a museum/research place, if you visit you can begin to put into perspective some of his life and music. To sit in the library listening to the Alpine Symphony with a full score whilst seeing the... More

We were unaware of the museum so it was a great treat. The rooma are well laid out with the composer's desk and some of his clothes. There are lots of scores and an... More

Nicely landscaped grounds, can walk your dog too. The Institute has regular events, in June there was a celebration of his birthday anniversary.

While absorbing enough for those with a fairly general interest, it is sufficiently detailed not to patronise the more serious Strauss fan, for whom the connection must be a major attraction when visiting Garmisch. There is an attractive recital room and on the top... More
