Much better tour than the more famous castle up the hill

Having been thoroughly disappointed with the race through the rooms at nearby Neuschwanstein, I was dreading more of the same at Hohenschwangau. In fact, as the rooms are significantly smaller, the groups are smaller and our wonderful tour guide Barbara made sure that she covered the main points in each room, allowed time for questions and ensured that there was... The castle is only accessible via tour, you can book tours up to 2 days before you are visiting which I thoroughly recommend so you can get the time you want. The tour of Hohenschwangau is more personal than Neuschwanstein and is rich with facts about the lives of the royal who lived there.

Very nice castle, with a guided tour which is quick and simple and straight to the point. The groups are small which makes the tourguide easy to hear. The tour is directed into each room and the door is closed, so no other group can join in or make a noise. Quite a few stairs, so if you struggle with... More

Lots of walking here so wear your most comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather. Well done tour inside and worth the visit. No photos inside but took plenty outside. Tours are moved thru in small groups, lots of information. Beautiful.

Beautiful place, only few steps from a lake with wonderful view and some ducks around. Lovely and green.

The inside of the castle is somewhat small and not particularly grand, looks better from outside with some nice views. Probably worth going in but if ur short of cash or time not great value for money as your is only 20 mins.

This castle was built by Mad Ludwig's father. When Ludwig became king of Bavaria, this was where he would stay while watching Neuschwanstein being built on the other side of the valley. You can walk up to the ticket center between the castles and buy a ticket that day, but I recommend paying the 3 Euro fee to make advance... More

Easter Saturday with family! Really beautiful castle with great view. The tickets sold separately with the Neuschwanstein so it's easier to get in!!! The place inside as breathtaking as the other one so you don't want to miss it either. The guided tours as well organized.

They explain this was the "hunting lodge" at one stage, so it's smaller overall, but grander inside as it was more finished and used than Neuschwanstein Castle. Schloss Hohenschwangau is about a 15 minute walk up stairs behind the main ticket office. You can get the horse drawn carriage for ambience and experience, but it's a fairly standard climb, and... We visited the castle in combination with Neuschwanstein and it was a nice combo to see the connection between the two. Groups are smaller and tours more personal (without security personnel, microphone..) however also very short. Still I found that there was more information given at this tour. Both castles require a certain fitness level as many stairs need to... More
