Take a walk around the historic fortress and see the city from all sides. It's a nice walk and you can exit at any available staircase closest to the area you wish to shop or find your car.

You certainly couldn't visit this wonderful medieval town without going up the stairs of the stone walls and having a walk around, like the sentries did hundreds of years ago. (there are several staircases around the wall). Takes abt an hour to walk the whole...More

They've done an excellent job of maintaining them, its worth walking around a portion or more to check out the different houses etc. You don't get much of a view outward however. There is a tower climb, closed when I was there.

The walls are nothing special and are just good for a stroll to take in the surroundings of the town and the town itself. Nothing too exciting but worth just walking across a part of the wall to complete the tourist experience in the town.

This is such a beautiful that it needs to be appreciated in many directions. Looking down into it as it would have been hundreds of years ago is certainly one of them. The stairs are not the best and arches and columns come down which...More

Absolutely gorgeous city. The walls are still strong and preserved with 42 towers around the Old Town. Every place you look is worth a picture - the old hotels, the restaurants, museums and shops. It is a post card city. Walk - don't drive!

There was an access point to the rampart walk just near our hotel so one morning as we set out to be tourists we climbed the steep stairs to the wooden walkway that follows part of the ancient city wall of Rothenburg. This is a...More

Narrow covered old town walls that are uneven in places but beautiful both from above and below. Can get very busy at weekends and they do not encompass the whole town. Not suitable for strollers due to tight turns and crowds.

There's not much I can add. The wall walk is flat, safe, easy, etc, but the stairs up to it can be a little tricky if your balance isn't good. I wouldn't go when crowded because there's not a lot of room and it would...More

A lot of the stones and brick have names on them of people who donated to the restoration. In the snow do watch your step (everywhere) but you will have a magical view in the snow. Enjoy!

There are many places to get up onto the wall. I would recommend simply walking along the wall until you reach a staircase. There are plenty of these access points along the way.
