Excellent and extremely knowledgable guide Sophie made this a highlight of our short but memorable first trip to Berlin. Your get all the sights and a free history lesson as well and we both throughly enjoyed it. The walk starts at the Brandenburg gate and includes checkpoint Charlie along with other historical events. At the end you decide how much... More

Fantastic walking tour about the history of the Third Reich. Was snowing and freezing all day, but the tour went ahead. Lewis was our guide and he was brilliant, so knowledgable and passionate about the city's history. If I had been in Berlin longer I would have been back to do the Red tour and the free walking tour also!... More

My boyfriend and I went on the free walking Tour in Berlin with Alice Swainson as the guide. Alice was excellent. She clearly knew the city well and was a natural at tour guiding. Definitely the best way to see the city and to hear about it's History. I would highly recommend to anyone.

We did a free walking tour of Berlin with a tour guide called Mark and it was the highlight of our trip! Mark was engaging, extremely passionate and he knew absolutely everything about the history of Berlin. Excellent was to see some of the main sights of the city and learn about key moments in Berlin's history.

My partner and I went on the SANDEMANs New Europe - Berlin free tour and it was OUTSTANDING! Our tour guide was Lizzy, a pocket rocket American - German who was a wealth of knowledge. Not only that, she was also very entertaining! She definitely made walking around in the sub zero temperatures far more bearable! You visit all the... More

Even though there is no tickets for the tour, all the stuff are performing as professional! Rob M was our guide for the free walking tour and Lizzy for the tour in Sachshaus concentration camp. Exceptional job from both of them! Don not miss it!

the guide gave us nice information about the city, etc. However, he was ALWAYS trying to sell the other ($$) tours offered by Sandermans .. really annoying!

I did almost every tour on offer from sandemans while I was in Berlin, including the Third Reich (Sam), Red Berlin (Rob. M), Sauchenhausen (Lizzy) and beer (Jason) tours. All of the guides were interesting, informative and friendly, I would definitely recommend it as the best way to see and learn about the history of the city in a short... More

We did three tours through this company. The first was the general tour with Franziska. Her English was excellent, and she clearly knew the city in and out. She was a very engaging speaker. This covered some of the major history points of the city, and gives you a good taster. We then did the Red tour with Lewis which... More

We have been touring round Europe for 3 weeks and have done numerous tours, this tour with Rob Shaw is an absolute highlight! He made the tour informative and engaging and relatable with some wonderfully timed humor. Rob made this not only the best tour we have done but also one of the most memorable experiences we will have whilst... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
