First time visitors to this amazing city. Recommended to go on a SANDEMANs walking tour by a friend and we weren't disappointed! Stephanie Taylor was so passionate and knowledgeable about the city that you could not help but become immersed in the city's history. Historical facts and interesting snippets of history past and present made this tour the best city... More

I love these free walking tours and try to jump on board on whenever I see they are running in a city I'm visiting. They've never disappointed and the Berlin tour was no exception. Georgia was a wonderfully passionate and experienced guide who gave us a great day. I learnt so much about Berlin and was inspired by Georgia's love... More

Myself and my partner joined the free walking tour group on Monday morning 5th Dec. Our tour guide was an American lady called Kyle. She was fantastic, giving us great information about the various sights on the tour, and she had a great sense of humour despite the bitterly cold morning! Thank you very much for getting our Berlin trip... More

My elderly mother (81) and I joined this free walking tour of Berlin, this morning, with guide Mark Connolly. It was brilliant! We walked to many of the major sites and Mark was extremely knowledgable about those places and the history attached to them. His enthusiasm for the history was infectious, while his presentation was clear and concise, with a... More

This was our first sandeman tour and we found it really good. We did this on our first morning in Berlin and it gave us a great introduction to the city. The free tour was 2.5 hours and was perfect length for us. Lucy was fun, energetic and knowledgeable on any questions we threw her way. Highly recommend doing this... More

I would 100% recommend this tour. It was free to book and reserve our place and we tipped our tour guide Duarte at the end of the tour based on how we felt it went. Myself and my boyfriend tipped €10 each. We met outside the Starbucks opposite Brandenburg Gate. (Train station Brandburg Tor) at 10am. The tour was just... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
