Went on the free walking tour and Sachsenhausen tours and both were amazing! We learned so much from our tour guides, Rochale and Rob M and they were very friendly. Do the walking tour first, it's a great introduction to the city and it's history. After doing the first two tours it made me want to stay in the city... More

Following our great experiences with 2 tours with them last year when in Berlin we booked again tours with this fantastic tour company. We were not disappointed, the Third Reich your with tour guide Mark Connelly, Approx 3 1/2 hrs and a 6 hour tour covering Potsdam again another Tour guide called Duarte. Use this tour company when visiting Berlin.

I travelled with a friend to Berlin. On the first day of our trip we went on a walking tour of the city. I would really really recommend this free walking tour to all. We had Georgia as our tour guide and she was absolutely excellent. She communicated clearly, had a great sense of humour and made the tour extremely... More

Kyle was an awesome tour guide in Berlin, the free (tipbased) tour is the best I literally can't recommend it enough. Kyle was engaging and informative and responsive to all my questions and concerns.

Thanks to Georgia free walking tour that I took was really amazing. Even if it took more than 3 hours, every minute was very interesting and educational. With lot of details that we probably cannot find in any book Georgia led us through the Berlin history. All recommendations for SANDMANs free tour.

We chose Free walking tour by friend recommendation and TripAdvisor rate. We planned it for our first morning there which I would recommend for sure since the tour is great for the start of exploring the city and guide can give you additional info on your interests (how to get somewhere, what clubs to go, where to eat, other tours,... Went to a free tour with a friend. Met with our guide and other visitors on Pariser Platz, which is a big square near Brandenburger tor that's easy to access by public transport. Free tour around Berlin centre was absolutely the best thing ever. Our guide was really well informed, educated (he studied history), in a good mood and talkative.... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
