Disappointing tourist trap
Oct 2021
Kitchy tourist trap in the middle of a busy road. You can't get a photo without either getting hit by cars or bikes or 50 other tourists being in your photo. After visting the Berlin Wall Memorail, DDR Museum and Topographie of Terrors, places that tell the real stories of the wall, I didn't see the attraction of this. It's a famous place so if you need the photo op, sure go for it. It's free.

Get there early to avoid the crowds
Oct 2021
It was nice learning the history of the checkpoint, but today it's too much of a tourist site and a lot of the historical importance has been lost. If you want a good photo, go early in the morning, otherwise you're stuck with the crowds of people.

You have to get your photo here I guess as we did but its busy, messy and a bit dangerous at rush hour. So watch the traffic.

Famous place to pass by quickly on your tour of this fantastic city
Aug 2021
I lived in Berlin for the best part of 4 years back I the 90's but never felt the urge to visit Checkpoint Charlie. So on a recent weekend visit to the German capital I thought that I should make amends.

Having arrived on the "U-Bahn" I emerged at the Checkpoint Charlie underground station and immediately ran into this famous place from the times of the Cold War and the Wall. To be honest there isn't much to see except for hordes of tourists having their photos behind some sandbags. I resisted the temptation to join them. But at least I can tick this place off my list of essential places to visit in this special city

Experience history
Jul 2021 • Family
Visited with my 2 boys 12 and 9 and even if there is not a lot to see it shows how Berlin was separated and there are some pictures showing the point through time. There was a small exhibition showing the wall during different times and some of the successful and failed escapes. So interesting for all of us and finally there was a beach bar area where we chilled and got a good kebab so we had fun.

Absolute scam of a place
Jul 2021 • Couples
Literally a box in the middle of a road with some sandbags either side and 2 guys standing there with G.I. uniforms on coaxing you to take a photo with them for 10 euro a pop.
Tourist trap 101.

Very interesting, a lot of history. Visit the museum for detailed information. The museum has a lot to offer but it is a labyrinth and it can get claustrophobic.

This is a definite must see when in Berlin especially if you have military family. The history of this area is real.

Historic Landmark
Jul 2020
Historic place but no so atmospheric as it was when we first saw it in 1991.
Also, where is that amazing Chinese restaurant that was on the corner, 1st floor?

One of the must sights
Oct 2020
Just a hut in the middle of the road--but it must be the most famous shed in the world. Therefore worth a visit. There is an underground station a minute away.
It is steeped in modern history and seeing it brought back memories of the cold war-a really tense time when further conflict threatened
