A group of us did a river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam with Avalon Waterways. They were absolutely fantastic from start to finish - the accommodation was superb, the cuisine delectable, but it was the crew who made the trip so special. Nothing was too difficult and they went out of their way to be helpful. The cruise director was... More

As we know, most tours, whether by land, sea or air, include an “escape clause” if unforeseen events such as bad weather, low river water, mechanical breakdown of equipment, etc. occur. WeI have had such an event happen more than once. However, we have expected the tour operator to tell us, honestly, as soon as possible, their knowledge about the... More

After planning and paying for our $9400.00 honeymoon15 months in advance, paying in full, my husband fell critically ill and almost died twice in five weeks. He had seven surgeries and lost over 40 pounds rapidly. We couldn't travel. To make it worse, this happened in the100% penalty window AND Viking wouldn't even let us change the names on the... More

Went on the River Cruise in April 2016 on the Viking Idi boat. I do not have any excuse to write almost a year later, as I often have fond memories about this great trip. Went with my wife. The plane fair and transport to the river boat was included. The cruise started April 13 2016 in Basel, Switzerland and... More

Since TopGear did a Vietnam trip I have yearned to see this country. Seeing Viking offer this cruise/ land based holiday, which also included Cambodia, was a dream come true. My husband and I are not adventurous enough to plan a holiday of this magnitude by ourselves. This is not a cheap holiday, but you are looked after the whole... More

My Mississippi River Cruise on French America Line was cancelled a few weeks before departure. French America Line pledged to reimburse for flight cancellation fees, but that didn't take place either. After several months of being told that payments were being "processed," including one email stating the "check is in the mail," the boat and the check are still nowhere... More

The Hungarian Hotel Manager on the ship is absolutely horrible, a horrible person with no manners. I don't understand how is she even working there? i was there last year, a philipino waiter threatened one of our european cruise staff members right there in the restaurant and the next day we got to know that he was to one to... I am really disappointed with Viking's Customer service, which praises themselves to be have been voted one of the best cruises lines. First of all, we had a very bad experience in our second Viking cruise , this time in Portugal, April 2016. The Vessel never sailed because of the high tide. The cruise director kept saying that maybe next... More

We had previously been on a fabulous river cruise with Viking to the Danube, with that in mind we booked the Rhine tour over Christmas with an extension to Lucerne for New Year. On our previous trip to the Danube the administration was perfect and well presented, not so on this trip. I had to constantly ask for information and... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
