We walked up and down the street a couple of times - it almost traces the character of the city: from the place of departure for those going back to east berlin before the fall of the wall (the palace of tears) then down towards...More

Busy street in centre of Berlin that is full of high street brands. Not the highest end brands though (for this you must go to Kurfurstenstrasse) near the zoo. We walked in Friedrichstraße started from Checkpoint Charlie until the station with the same name as...More

Of course we went across Friedrich Str. Not a beautiful street as such but a source of memory and history. Checkpoint Charlie, explanatory panels. Quite interesting.

It is a shopping street, but it confuses people. Down by Checkpoint Charlie you have low end tourist trinkets and trash. Head up a bunch of blocks and you are in high end stores. Most people will not bother to walk far enough to see...More

We walked along the street to our hotel but spent most of our time going through this area in the S-Bahn station. It's like a shopping mall with a transit system that runs through it. Very easy street and station to get around.

The street has a long history going back to before the second World War. It was home to Checkpoint Charlie during the cold war and the Fiedrichstadt Palast theater is located on it. It is now a major shopping and cultural destination in Berlin. The...More

Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can
both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central
neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the
1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around
Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s,
rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a
carefree life here. An old hospital even became a
hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today
