Only place in Berlin we found to be 'to touristy' not for us, people queuing to get photo's with actors dressed as American solders does not fit into the other attractions on show in Berlin.

Ok,you have had your photo taken at the checkpoint, mingled with hundreds of other tourists, seen a little of the infamous wall, great laugh!!! Now visit the little museum and try to understand what East Berliners had to endure. The museum is very close to the checkpoint and time permitting should be visited. No glamour here, just facts and interesting... More

This museum was a confusing chaos of wall to ceiling information taking up an entire building. Despite having a very important message and presumably good intent, whatever educational aims they may have are lost in the disorganised tidal wave of dialgoue thrown at the visitor. DO NOT bother with an audio guide - it's just another means of throwing overly... More

Although I did enjoy the visit to the area it was a bit like 'oh, that's it'. It was interesting to learn more about the divide and to see the border point pretty much as it was. The shop was pretty cool, loads in there including pieces of the Berlin wall. There were parts of the wall used as canvas... More

Overpriced tickets compared to all the other museums we visited in the city during this trip. Note: do NOT pay extra for the audio tour. It's overlong and completely out of sync with what you're actually seeing. The pieces in the museum are numbered so you know what you're looking at compared to the audio, but some items are literally... More

The history of the wall is very interesting. The brave and creative striving for freedom is fascinating. children with adults guidance may enjoy the visit. The exhibition needs new space and adaptation to nowadays standards.

Its very easy to spend 1-2 hours here as the exhibits and the textual descriptions are very compelling. Each room you enter with stories of history, the wall and escapes all more fascinating than the previous. If you have a Berlin Welcome Card there is a discount on the entry fee. There is also an audio guide available. Checkpoint Charlie... More

The audio guide was a bit confusing because upstairs the numbers jumped in order a bit ,but was a good interesting insight of the wall and those who escaped , well worth a visit

We took the tour bus and got off at Checkpoint Charlie the army are there and if you want to take a photo with them you have to pay 3 Euro, unless you take one from the other side.

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
