One of the few (remaining) places where you can spend hours going through the CD offerings... really impressive and worthwhile!

This 3-floor bookstore is incredible and I'd recommend is to anyone to visits Berlin (whether they are readers or not). I can happily spend a few hours in the building - spending some time in the English section scanning through different books, admiring the souvenirs and vinyl records and having a bite to eat in the restaurant next to the... This is arguably the best bookstore in Berlin. Located in the touristic Friedrichstrasse, the store is quite big and spacious. They have a wide selection of books as well as movies in the upstairs section. We were there to buy some foreign films with English subtitles; some of the films only have German subs so it's a matter of luck... More

As everyone else has commented, this place is huge with a pretty section for books in English. And of course, every imaginable book in German - and DVD's and CD's and.... And once you're tired of perusing their vast collection, go to the lower level with the "gardens of Babylon" on the wall and a very nice place for a... More

If you love books you will feel like in heaven. For the kids they have kind of a playground and kids can browse through their favorite books as long as they fancy! Don't miss!

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
