At the end of January we attended a performance of "La Traviata" in the newly renovated State Opera. The singers were excellent and the acoustics of the new Opera hall is formidable. Elsa Dreisig as Violetta was incredibly good

The opera house has been renovated for what seems like eternity. Still, you could still see the lovely façade of the building through the mechanical equipment and admire it.

I visited the Staatsoper company (they're still currently performing in the Schiller theater until the Staatsoper is completed with renovations) while visiting in December 2015. Well it was for the birthday party celebrations a few weeks ago ..... and I got stared at disapprovingly in my tourist garb (jeans). More formal than the UK in general, but no need to go over the top.
