The model of Hamburg Port and the ability to virtually maneuver a large commercial ship alone was worth the visit. The lay out of the Museum is easy to follow and keeps your interest up by presenting a coherent story using artifacts, multimedia and story telling in such an engaging way you will be mesmerized. Great museum and I am not usually a fan of Maritime Museums. It is the best one I have ever visited. It could be overwhelming as it has 9 floors and 1/2 floors. There is something for everyone there. We started from the top and worked our way down. It takes at least 2 hours. We were there at the... More

Easy location to find, Private collection museum, full day recommended. Pass out available. Food on site is great, but there are many local bistros and cafes near by the museum. Discount for UK service men. 10 floors of exhibits including two midget submarines from WW2. Books available in English, fantastic technical bookshop and shop. Staff English speaking and extremely knowledgeable... More

This is a great museum. Period. Whether or not you are a ship fan. There are literally 1000's of models of all types of ships (commercial, military, sailing, power, old, new) plus paintings, military uniforms, weapons and medals, a section on ocean rescue, arctic exploration, ship motors and more. There is A LOT to see in this museum. Near the... More

Great place. Huge display covering all aspects of maritime life and industry. Even if one has no interest in ships, navies, etc there is something relevant to your life.

This museum is a bit expensive (13EUR for adult), but definitely worth it. Great miniatures of ships and harbors, lot of models and very nice graphics explaining everything from maritime explorations to shape of sails.

What a fantastic jewel of a museum. We really enjoyed visiting this underrated museum and getting a tour. It's got a really impressive collection. You not only learn about Hamburg's important maritime history, but there's a ton of German history here. There's also an incredible collection of miniatures. I consider this a must-do in Hamburg.

As described, worth the effort if you are in any way a marine enthusiast. Possibly a bit too big and a bit too much information but beautifully laid out - not the hands on experience of Greenwich though so maybe not so good for younger kids

I haven't got sea-water in my veins but this was rather good. The stuff on Doenitz U- Boats was particularly good. Enormous though, 2 hours not enough.

Thank Tedoi
