While having free time during a visit to Hamburg on a Coach Tour we visited the beautiful church of St. Michael (St. Michaelis). It is painted white inside, a stark contrast to the timber fittings and the gold trimmings. The Church has a magnificent organ,...More

One of my favorite things to do on vacation is see cathedrals and churches. This one is the most famous in Hamburg. We happened to arrive at 12 noon and attended a 20 minute service - what a treat!! The pipe organ is magical!

Most of the big German churches are pretty sedate inside. This one is stunning. Definitely worth a visit. There was a choir singing on our visit which added to the beauty and serenity. Not that far a walk from other major sites-so do it!

Beautiful cathedral and well worth a visit. Would recommend going up in the lift to the viewing platform for great views across Hamburg. Reasonably priced entrance.

You cannot miss this church and steeple near the Reeperbahn and north of the Rathaus.. There is admission for the steeple and crypt, but the church is free. Check it out!
