Excellent walk.

We walked around the main lake. It was beautiful as it was a Sunday evening and it was full of families and friends having fun.

The Alster consists of 2 lakes the Ausenalster (Outer- Alster) and Binnenalster (Inner - Alster) which are fed by the river, the Alster. The lakes are located right in the heart of Hamburg. The Alster cruises leave from the Jungfernstieg. You have a choice of various cruises, the short one which takes in the Outer- Alster and Inner – Alster... More

We stopped by here after seeing boat pictures on the reviews but when we got there we couldn't see any. There is some larger operated boat trips but from where we were standing there wasn't an awful lot to see. Looked like a nice bar on the front to get a drink and steps to sit on to chill for... We had a free trip courtesy of our hotel. The ferry takes you all around the lake and is a great way to see all of it. It's also a pleasant place for a stroll around. Great at the weekends to see it so well used with lots of yachts, canoes etc.

The lake is very tranquil and relaxing. Walked around the entire lake in a few hours taking time to stop and enjoy the sights. There are restaurants along the lake where on can stop and get refreshments. It was really enjoyable. Would highly recommend to take time to experience it.

The lakes are really beautiful, and you can take a boat tour around the lakes and also canals- it is a wonderful way to see Hamburg! Many boats offer coffee, other drinks, snacks, and cake on board. Great photo opportunity- you see a lot from the lakes!

Had a walk around most of the lake, the weather was changing, but some sun and nice views, and a cosy hour sitting on a bench with the lake in sun. Must visit when you are in Hamburg.

I think visit the lake area is a must to get broader perspective on Hamburg. In sharp contrast to other areas of the city, the area surrounding the Aussenalster has some of the most exclusive property in Hamburg. The pretty lake is loved by locals and visitors alike. Its 10 KM circumference is lined by a shaded public park which... More

I ended up walking round the alster as I unsuccessfully tried to do the €15 round trip. The outer and inner lake are very peaceful and well worth a walk round in parts you walk through the streets which have some beautiful houses on them. There are many places to stop and eat or get drinks. The reason for my... More

I just love the atmosphere around these lakes. It is full of life but still a lot of birds and nice areas to walk and run. My suggestion is to put your walking- or running shoes on and just walk/run around it, enjoying the atmosphere.
