These pretty buildings used to be ancient warehouses with the canal running on one side and a street at the back. Now they are upmarket blocks of flats. A piece of Hanseatic history

We were on one of the "free walking tours" and thought this was a truly beautiful area. It has some Hanseatic houses and they are turned into restaurants. Probably a must to visit while in Hamburg. Nice going with a tour so you know the...More

A must to Hamburg tourists as it shows atlas a small part of ancient Hamburg. Old Townhouses that today hold a couple of trendy and top restaurants and bars.

I have wanted to visit this city for years. I was not disappointed. So many beautiful things to see and do and this was one of them.

The street is very short, but I think this is the only remaining original part of the old town. Everything else was destroyed during the war and then reconstructed.

This small street is almost the whole "old town". On every house there is a sign, written only in german, what was it originally, and what happened to it during the centuries. On a very little scale the history of Hamburg.

Unfortunately the street is short, most of the buildings were destroyed in a great fire in XIX century, nice example of old house architecture.

What is left of old town of Hamburg is small but pretty. It is reminiscent of Amsterdam, but on a much smaller scale.

I really like this neighbourhood in between the bustling city and the bustling harbour area. Despite the touristiness of it, it has a quiet and calm feel to it. There are nice restaurants, nice bars...and a nice cafe with a wooden seat outside to sit...More
