The Niedewalddenkmal marks the uniting of Germany after the french-preussian war in 1871 and is really a remarkable monument which also is situationen in a very beautiful surrounding. It is possible to reach the monument by cable cart from both Rüdesheim and Assmanshausen (requires a short walk) and by walking. I recommend doing both :-)

We went there in April 2017 and the weather was really nice. The monument is a must see in Rudesheim, the ride with gondola lift is very relaxing, I totally recommend it. The price is 8 euro per person (adults). Monument is located at the edge of the forest and it offers an incredible view of the Rhein river valey... More

The monument is impressive in size. You can see it all the way from the Ruedesheim. Worth spending some time but not to plan a visit.

The monument can be seen from Ruedesheim but once you stand in front of the statue the size and detail is just awesome

This statue is an interesting and perhaps partially controversial piece of German history. The location is on a hill with stunning views of the Rhein and surrounding area. There are really nice walking paths around here and the opportunity to travel via the Seilbahn Rudesheim.

Spent one night in Rüdesheim in late March. We had lovely weather, but rather low expectations of the town. This town didn't even earn a mention from Rick Steves, for example, other than being snubbed as "overrun by tourists" Don't be fooled! As with most places in Europe, you never know where the journey will take you. From the base... More

The memorial is really 'grande': big and imposing. Also a bit scary considering the wars that followed. The views over the countryside and villages are great lovely. We definitely recommend to buy the round tour using the chairlifts from and to Assmanshausen and Rudesheim. The round trip also includes visiting the beautiful Rheinstein castle by a boat trip along the... More

memorizing victories - this is when and how the 2nd Reich begun. Pomp and glorious times of the few years Germany wasn't beaten for it's pompous self . Most interesting is, that it wasn't destroyed after the world wars. Recently refurbished Beautiful view of the river Rhine just short of it's last bend to the North again

The monument itself is impressively large, and the view of the Rhein is terrific. We rode up on the gondola, and although it was a bit expensive, our family enjoyed the view. It was neat to be able to point to the monument from below and say that we'd been there. However, for me, I wouldn't go out of my... More
