The must is the room on the top floor with all the wall painting and decoration to take your breath away. The Museum on the first level Kept the real bronze lion, the icon of the town and costume of priests are the must you shouldn't miss. Really good.

Most of the castles I've been to are in a remote place up a hill or mountain but this one is bang in the city centre. The medieval (rebuilt) architecture is amazing. Was on a post-conference walking tour so I didn't have time to go in but I wish I had...

Interesting composition from Medieval to World War II. Would be interesting for people who love history. Composition is located randomly, thing from different times are nearby.

Although looking imposing and well-preserved it does not produce a feeling of authenticity. Rather it looks like a "new old" castle and recently I learnt that it was indeed reconstructed in the 19th century. It has a nice little museum (to your right at the entrance) which houses the original statue of the lion a copy of which is standing... More

Dankwarderode castle (or Burg) is at the heart of Brunswick (Braunschweig), in the castle square (Burgplatz). The square has other historic buildings and the castle is part of the city-run museum.
