Book with sauna!
Feb 2020 • Solo
I spent around 2-3 hours in Carolus Thermen. The warm pool area downstairs is cool, but what I liked much more was the sauna place upstairs. There were so many different saunas with different rituals, love that! There is also a whirlpool and a pool outside to have a rest between the rituals. A must while in Aachen ❤️

Fantastic place to let body and soul relax
Dec 2019
We went to the Carolus Thermen already several times and we enjoyed it always. This place found the right balance to relax in these natural thermal waters and have enough attractions to stay interesting for several hours. One main indoor pool with several separations and side pools and two outdoor pools allow plenty of space to move around. Everywhere you can find waterfalls and jacuzzi elements that get activated at different times. The streaming circle in one of the outdoor pools in fun as well. The water is nicely warm, depending of the pool between 33 and 38 degrees celsius (plus one refreshing cold water pool).
Everything is very well organised and gets regularly cleaned. Because of the design the place doesn't feel crowed even if it can get very popular. Nice feature is that it is not allowed to block deck chairs, so there are almost always some available.
An extra plus is the rather good bistro that is part of the spa. The food comes from the same kitchen that also serves a regular restaurant and therefore is of good quality. We can recommend especially the Schnitzel and the Flammkuchen. Don't forget to bring a bathrobe or a big towel, as this is just more comfy.
All in all a great place and we are looking forward to go back there once more.

Great place to relax
Nov 2019
Carolus There is far more than just a swimmingpool. On tho first floor a swimming landscape with several pools inside and outside awaits you. Temperatures are different in them with one 38 Celsius pool. There are two pools outside.
On the second floor they offer more wellness with a sauna landscape.
Prices are very reasonable, but you can also buy cards at prices between 150 and 200 € that give reductions up to 20 %, thus reducing the price for the pools to as little as € 9,60.
You can park on the spot, inside for 4 € regardless the time you park there.

not even as hot as bath water
Dec 2019
Meh.
Only did the pools, not the sauna,
the way you get in and out and have to basically change clothes in a phone booth is kinda strange and not really relaxing.
When we got in, we kept looking for the hot thermal pools, but the main pool was not even 30 degrees C, too cool for my liking.
the outside pools are interesting, but still not really warm.
Finally found the one hot pool at about 35 C with way too many people trying to crowd into it.
overall disappointing when compared to the thermal pools in the American West.

Nice OK, expensive POOL!
Oct 2019
Not really a spa!!!! Yes, they have overpriced massages, but compared to a real spa, they've dropped the ball. Bottom line - if you are looking to go swimming only and you've got more money than sense, go for it. This place is expensive, crowded and the staff will TAKE your towels if you don't sit on top of them. They have RULES that must be followed! For those of you who speak German, they are quite Schpeesig (sp). This is a place for locals who buy a season pass go to for a little diversion. Not at all what I was expecting. No natural hot spring or any other typical spa type services beyond massage. Its not actually that big of a place. It only seems large because of the high ceiling.

Great spa experience! Reload and zen

One of the main attractions of Aachen, besides the Dom, must be this spa.
Very well organised, designed and with a lot of variations in options to bathe, sweat or steam. The thermal water is great and has an amazing soothing warm temperature.
Enjoy the sauna’s inside or in the wooden sauna village in the garden.

OK, but not as relaxing as expected
Oct 2019
The baths/saunas are fine, but were too crowded to be relaxing. I felt like I was at a nice/popular hotel pool, not a relaxing spa.
While not for everyone, the sauna was really nice, but I was also expecting more warm to hot water pools. All the pools were warm, but not hot... I like it hot. The sauna rooms were really diverse and relaxing though.

Overall a good experience, but not the hyped experience I was expecting in a city known for its baths.

Nice spa

Very nice spa and atmosphere. Didn't like the locker area and shower system though it doesn't complete the experience it's uncomfortable. Also if you are booking a massage/treatment you need to pay admission fee per hour over and above even if you don't use facilities, I think that is cheeky.
