With further archeological Work continuing near the Rathaus, and another huge museum under construction there, certainly the Roman roots of Cologne are strong and this is the place to lear that history. I spent a couple of hours here ( more than in the cathedral!)...More

Cologne ("Colonia") was founded by the Romans, and this museum has the evidence. Many artifacts, statues, and even complete mosaic floors are on display here. Even the teenage boys put away their smart phones for a while! Recommended (and conveniently located next to the Cathedral...More

A wonderful museum close to the station and Cathedral, and my reason for visiting Cologne. Wonderful mosaics from the villa that was on this site, and an amazing collection of Roman-era glass that was distinctive to Cologne.

There a massive collection of Roman artifacts from the days of the colony ( hence the name of Cologne ) It starts from pre Roman times and go onto the Frankish influences. Well recomended.

I really enjoyed this museum. I am very interested in early Roman history and ruins so there is plenty to see and read about here. It is built on the original site of a Roman ruin uncovered during WWII. There are many wonderful artifacts here....More
