Nice hike to this ruin in Hohenecken while staying at the Bur Schanke Hotel. Awesome views from the top and several trails that lead into the local forest.

A murky Tuesdays cycle exercise turned into a decent cultural experience plus fitness benefits. Despite the temperatures at this time of the year hoovering around zero, I need my exercise, but detest repeating the same beaten (single) track all the time. So, I turned West from Kaiserslautern instead of doing the good old Humberg Routine over&over again. Coming from Kaiserslautern... More

Absolutely loved this tucked away gem. Located on a high hill in a small suburban neighborhood, it was a wonderful, quiet get away from all the usual tourist locations. It was a little hard to locate, most likely due to the fog on the day we had gone, but it was a pleasant surprise when we finally made it to... More

Burg Hohenecken is beside the Humbergturm one of my favorite places to go, when I need to get away from every day stress or just want a bit of walk. I visited it many times on working days or at weekends, in the morning, in the afternoon, even in the dark. Each visit had its own magic and it never... More

For the folks of Kaiserslautern it provides one of the best views of the city. It's close. A great hike. And, let's you travel back in time to view this historic castle ruin.

Used to love sitting at our neighbors and seeing this castle ruin out their living room window in the evening. Had to check it out myself. Clean, easy to get around and peacful feeling.

This is a great hike if you are looking for something to do on a sunny morning, or afternoon. The hike up to the castle is less than a kilometer from the street below. I went up on a Saturday and enjoyed wandering the ruins, walking the forest, and looking at the different views. I would recommend taking a bottle... More

Nice little castle ruins. It is free and has a nice view. There are picnic tables up there. It is a little hike but not bad. There where little goats there also.
