We really loved the Roman artifacts in this museum. We made a mistake and spent too much time in the first part of the museum, and lost some energy by the time we got to the super amazing Roman mosaics, artifacts, and sculptures. The final rooms of Trier history are also interesting. We used the English (free) audio guide which... More

As someone who is drawn to museums I was very impressed with this one. There was so much to see, although I was a bit confused as to whether or not it was open due to all the building work going on around the entrance. The other downside was the shortage of information in English to help you understand the... More

I witnessed the new 3D show of the museum. It's colorful and the story catching. They have a big collection of vestiges

Even though there is a treasure trove of artifacts here, English is limited, even with the free audio guide (for which you need your passport for a loan, which is weird). There is an English translation of the placards before you enter a room but most of the objects inside don't have audio guide translations. Thus as someone else said,... More

The most "modern" pieces in the collection are church artworks from the middle ages - tapestries, carvings, and statues from the 1300s. A cache of over 2600 gold coins dating from AD 63 - AD 196 unearthed when a carpark was being constructed in the 1980s is a real highlight. Staff is very helpful to explain exhibits where there is... The Rheinisches Landesmuseum is the premiere museum for Trier and has some very impressive displays of roman antiquity and also examples from other historic aspects of the region. There are some very impressive Roman statues, and day to day items like tools and brooches. The most impressive display from my perspective were the many mosaics. Some very very complete and... Firstly, nice museum, well presented and easy to access. Some great exhibits, and lots of space to move around. The Nero special exhibition had just ended so there was some disruption as exhibits were being moved. One problem : the English audio guides weren't working, so we had to read and puzzle out the German language notices. As I have some... More

Worth a trip on its own. The tombstones, showing scenes of normal life, and the mosaics, are outstanding and very well displayed. It would be better, for people like myself with rudimentary German, to have more translations of captions. We were there at the time of the Nero exhibition, now finished, so some items were not on display, but the... More

In the first place the collections of the museum are remarkable. It is sad that the staff is totally unpleasant, not welcoming, especially incompetent. For example, they blame you for not reserving certain services while there is a sign just saying the opposite in their side ... The direction absolutely has to wake up.

Rich museum for Roman antiquity particularly the late periods. At time of visit a special exhibition took place so much of normal collection was not shown.
