The name of Saint Willibrord in the complex of St. Irminen occurs more than once. St.Willibrord nursing home and church of St.Irminen are in close proximity. On revamped lower tier of the Romanesque bell tower is now a chapel of St.Willibrord, quite sparsely furnished with minimal decoration, but very bright because of a new stained-glass window. The permanent companionship of these two names is not surprising – during their life both saints were very friendly, and Irminen even passed as a donation the land and property in favour of the monastery of Echternach in Luxembourg, founded by Willibrord. Willibrord's prayer had allegedly rid the monastery of St. Irminen from the plague.
The building is very nice, with arched gallery, light white-washed with red stripes along the contour. The lush greenery is around (it's a corner of Hotspitienpark), Moselle river is flowing nearby. The courtyard in front of the church is well landscaped – walkways, benches, and guests feel comfortable and pleasant.

After visiting the former monastery of St Irminen, I came across this one as well. Again it failed to impress. I was told that it even saw massive renovation recently. It looks like monasteries in Trier were built in a modest way compared to churches.

This former monastery building was in 2001 reopened after extensive refurbishment and renovation as Willibrordstift. The eponym, St. Willibrord (658-739, an Anglo-saxon missionary), was the founder of the famous Abbey of Echternach in Luxembourg. The establishment of this abbey was made possible by the deed of the Holy Irmine, who was Abbess of monastery St. Irminen-Oeren. This monastery was in 19th century, after its secularization by Napoleon, the most important part of the then newly formed Vereinigten Hospitien.
