DDR era monument to Karl Marx, who, for a few decades, lent his name to this fascinating city. Powerful and moving. Actually inspiring, in a way few such public artworks are.

This statue is unavoidable in Chemnitz - it is huge and it just seems very out of place - a remnant from the cold war which has stood the test of time......!!

An imposing bust certainly worth visiting if you are in the area and reflecting on what impact one man can have whatever your political views. Seemed a place for people to hang out on a warm summers evening.

What an enormous head! But it's good to see that something was left to stay after the fall of Communism. A good reminder of things past.

It's a quick easy trip from the main train station. The size of it is actually pretty amazing- it's massive. In retrospect it's ironic how something meant to be so monumental has turned into an anachronism.

One of the last icons of the cold war DDR . a very big statue of Marx es Head on the main square . The square itself seems to be designed for large parades.
