You see this walking over the bridge over the Elbe. It's hard to "see" it well as sculpture since the gold is so glinty at night under artificial light. There is a small cast of it in bronze in the Residenz.

The statue is quite impressive, sitting on his golden horse is a golden rider. Everything is so GOLD. I can see the statue from my hotel window and even at night it is so GOLD.

After crossing the old bridge from the Altstadt to the Neustadt across the river Elbe you immediately see this nicely restored statue of one of the old famous rulers of old times (17th century) in this part of Germany. August the Strong is firmly seated...More

By 2003 this monument was completely restored and is considered as the best known monument in Dresden. Eyes are drawn to the statue as it is covered in gold leaf. Most people come to visit the Alstadt but those crossing the bridge over the Elbe...More

The golden statue of August the strong in the centre of the square. When the sun shines on the golden statue it almost comes to life. This is a great meeting place to start your adventure of Dresden

Nice guilted statue of King Augustus II (The strong) from the 17th century. He is the one responsible for many of Dresden's baroque treasures.

This bright gold statue with its dark marble bass creates a very different look. The statue is worth a look but not just to go and see it. The building near it appears toe a relic of the GDR. We saw it from the City...More

I'm sorry - I think this is one of the ugliest statues I've ever seen anywhere in the world. Pure bad taste.

This statue is rather imposing. It demonstrates the power of the king. The colour combination of the black marble pedestal accentuates the golden horse and rider.
