Visited the old fashioned style Cafe here to escape the cold. I enjoyed the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The MoleHill cake was delicious.

This is an architectural improvisation. People still live and work in it.Its pink colour. Its shape is irregular. That's enough to take you there! It also has a way up through an elevator where you can get into a small cafe but a glorious view over the city both its modern and its historic parts. It is really worth it to go there... More

The Grüne Zitadelle/Green Citadel is the last project of the famous and controversial Austrian architect and painter Friedensreich Hundertwasser. It was completed in 2005, 5 years after his death on the Queen Elizabeth 2. It is located at the edge of Magdeburg's Domplatz, close to the Dom. Interesting non-linear architectural concept, reminiscent of Antoni Gaudi's work on residential buildings in... More

At this marvelous place they got excellent tour guides who can show you around (and yeah, they speak English :). It's a visit that makes it worth coming to this town.

If you have visited Barcelona, you are ready for this. If you like unusual and modern, you are ready for this. It is clearly different and stops you in your tracts. The building is home to apartments above the ground level, where there are numerous shops. The colored columns are delightful.

The Zitadelle is worth a visit, but what it misses in the end is more space around to truely see the architecture.

Wonderful example of Hunderwasser's mad, crazy, genius. We have stayed in other properties like this and loved it. Definitely a must see in Magdeburg. Can't recommend the hotel to stay at but do walk around the area and stop for a coffee.

Try to sneak at the roof top to have an incredible view to inside gardens and Dom. This building is something MUST SEE.

Magdeburg, being almost completely flattened during the war was rebuilt in DDR style: concrete living blocks. It has been freshened up after the wall fell bust still not a really attractive city. Then the colorful Grüne Zitadelle is a welcome fresh look on life and how modern ideas can take over. A sprinkle of Barcelona in eastern Germany.
