Beautiful Church so much history...
You don't need to make reservations and city offers free walking tours around old town at 10:30 am and 1 pm every day , tour guy in English Pablo is the best.

Impressive church – much better than the cathedral
Jun 2018 • Couples
We visited this after having seen the nearby cathedral, and liked this much better. Not only is this a building on a human scale, but it is clearly a church much visited – and, no doubt, loved – by local people. The columns in the nave, with their circular Moorish arches, are pleasing to the eye, as are the plain white, concave ceilings that the arches enclose. This church has ancient roots.
The imagery and iconography are visually stunning, although I do have reservations about the preponderance of waxwork-like religious images that seem to be popular in this part of Spain, and were evident here too. I noticed that several devout visitors were keen to touch the hems of garments draped around these images, as if they somehow possessed magical or mystical properties. A culturally interesting experience…..

Beautiful Imposing Interior
May 2018 • Couples
This was significantly smaller than the near-by Cathedral but the interior decoration was more imposing and spectacular and well worth a visit. It was built in 1263 on the site of a Muslim Mosque by none other than Alfonso X the Wise and has undergone many modifications since .Definitely worth a look inside and it is free.

Fascinating place
Apr 2018 • Friends
Having put our heads around the door of the main cathedral and not feeling the atmosphere the opposite could be said of this place. Beautiful religious figures and works of art but above all a most spiritual place. I was fascinated by some of the rituals we saw there, the leaving of herbs ( parsley?) in front of one figure, the significance of the red carnations, the touching of the robes and the kissing of the glass windows of certain figures was very moving. A very special place in Cadiz

Fascinating interior
Apr 2018 • Couples
We stumbled upon this house of treasures between the Roman theatre and the cathedral. They were preparing for a religious parade so the statues were dressed quite audibly and the platforms/trolleys were decorated in velvet with silver vases. So sumptuous.

Don't miss this place

Interesting church. Have a look at Cristo de Medinaceli. There is quite a contrast between the religious art and the architecture of the roof. We were glad to have seen it after walking through some stormy weather. Worth the effort.

The statuary is amazing

The detail in the statuary is very realistic and worth the trip here just to view them. In contrast to the larger cathedral...this is very intimate. We visited during a local wedding.

Do not miss this wonderful gem
Mar 2016 • Couples
A bit hard to find - go inside, buy you ticket, go up to the next floor - interesting - go up to the next floor and WOW. A small chapel - Baroque in style with paintings by Goya, Gonzalez Velazquez and Jose Camaron. Then go down the stairs to the basement to the plainness and simplicity of a church for inner contemplation. Very unusual and a fascinating story to go with it.
