Overview
More
The Real Chancillería (High Court) presents an elegant interior courtyard designed by Diego de Siloé. Built at the same time as the surrounding Plaza Nueva during the 1530s, its austere Renaissance façade suited its purpose as a prison and house of justice. Two galleries flank the courtyard -- the lower one featuring half-barrel arches supported by marble Doric columns and the upper one a stone balustrade and cornice decorated by carved stone leaves. A dungeon under the main staircase is where the executioner used to await the court's decisions. Admission: free

This outstanding building in Plaza Nueva definitely attracts attention. This renaissance style palace was made royal chancery by the emperor Charles V and is performing practically the same duties now, as the High Court of Andalusia resides there. Impossible to miss if on Plaza Nueva...More

Real Chancilleria is an attractive civic building in the Plaza Nueve. It's easy to appreciate as the square which is pedestrianized although access for the public to the inside is unfortunately not possible.

You can't miss this building because it's a big beautiful building on Plaza Nueva. The building is now has a function as Andalusia High Court of Justice.

While a beautiful building and as have others have pointed out a great backdrop for photographs I do think they missed out on an opportunity when the court is not in use. On approaching the building it's made clear that unless you have business there...More

It does not appear that tourists can enter - since there are guards at the entrance. This is an impressive building from an architecture standpoint. They used to judge people inside and then execute them outside.

I never saw it open but the building dominates Plaza Nueva and makes a beautiful backdrop for photographs.
