If you're feeling a little adventurous, I recommend at least a day hike that starts with a ride up to the top of the mountain from the Fuente De cable car. I have hiked a lot in North America, but these mountains are very rocky and desolate, which is beautiful in its own way. There were enough people on the... More

We put in for an overnight hike from the Lagos de Covadonga and stayed at Refugio Vega de Ario. I was a little worried because the parking lots and well established trails around the lakes were very crowded. But, it quickly became evident about 95% of the people up there were tourists on a day-walk as we soon left the... More

We began this walk from Poncebos near to the Bulnes funicular. Parking was difficult as this is a very popular walk, especially at the weekend. As you drive from Arenas to Poncebos you'll pass through a short tunnel and the road swings to the left, then over a bridge to the Bulnes funicular. Instead of going over the bridge drive... More

The scenery is breathtaking with many spectacular walking trails. The many villages within the park contain restaurants serving local foods. Local cider is very popular. Staying in the smaller villages is like taking a step back into the past with cows walking down the narrow cobbled streets.

Hiking is a thing you should do while you visit them. There are many routes that you can download before going, the easiest way is to catch the Bulnes funicular in Poncebos or "El cable" in Fuente De. Remember to take enough water with you it's a desert up there

Decided to take a scenic drive on a lovely clear and sunny day....not the best travellers for mountain roads but it was worth it and not quite as bad as expected!! Started at Cangis de Onis via Covadonga and then joined the N625 to Riano (65km) passing through stunning gorges, views of the Picos de Europa and some narrow steep... More

We took and eight day hiking tour through the park in a figure of eight to try to visit the best parts and make use of public transport. The part is really varied with rocks, snow (even in August), wildflowers (even in August). moon-scape land scapes, arid areas, rich lush area, cows, wild deer, rock climbers and shepherds. All the... I spent a day hiking in these mountains and I wish I planned longer. Gorgeous views and beautiful trails.

We did a two day trip through these gorgeous mountains. The sharp gray peaks, swift flowing rivers and contrasting green scenery provide some of the best scenery in Europe. We stopped to shop in a delightful quaint old village called Santillana del Mar and then rode tram to top of mountains. Great day in Northern Spain

The picos mountains are truly beautiful and the southern side is wonderfully free of the normal commercialisation that ruins so many naturally spectacular areas. Great place to visit in a small camper van.
