A small but very informative museum in montuiri about the talaiot son fornes archaeological site a few miles away covering the site from 900 B.C through to middle ages. Cheap entry and well worth a visit

When in Montuiri visit this museum before seeing anything else. English speaking museum staff can give you suggestions regarding other sites in the area as well.
The city hall has maps to show the location of the most important sites in this small town built on two hills. The Palma-Montuiri bus stop is a little far from the town centre, around 15 min walk. However, the town offers a free shuttle service from the bus stop for those who prefer not to walk. There is a shortige of public washrooms in town and there were only 3 cafes open during my visit in March, so plan accordingly.

A little museum about very good ancestral ruins
Dec 2016 • Solo
Museu Arqueològic de Son Fornès is a little museum located in the town called Montuiri, in the center of the Mallorca island. Here you can see the history of ancestral humans, who inhabited this island ans especially the history of the prehistoric town called "Son Fornès". In fact, near the museum there is this town, where you can see the old buildings and however these buildings are in ruins, it is possible to identificate the different parts of the town. So interesting, if you like very much this period of the our history.

Informative, small museum
Jun 2015 • Friends
The museum is very informative about all periods in Mallorca. The texts are in Castilian and Balearic, but you can get a translation in English and German (and perhaps also other languages).
Very kind staff.
See the museum before you visit the site "Talaiot Son Fornés" (and do remember, if you are searching for a talaiot site on Google maps, you need to write "talaiot" in front of the name)

A glimpse into the bronze age

I am writing this review after a year(was there may 2013)We stopped by this fine archaeological museum in Monturi for a few hours .We have always been interested how people lived during the ancient times. The collections of pottery ,depictions and animations showing how people constructed and lived in the taloyots or megaliths was fascinating.
We then drove to the actual site of location of the taloyots which is 4 km away i think. As we hade been to the museum before hand we could let our imaginations take over when we saw the actual site. The archeologists of son fornes have done hard work !.A well hidden gem of a museum with quite place and little tourists.(Best to have some reading material before hand because i think there are not many english speaking people to ask .one will receive a brochure in english though).

A Bit Out of the Way, But Good for Archaeology Buffs
Mar 2014 • Couples
A bit of a drive from Palma or Alcúia and Pallença, but if you enjoy archaeology or ancient history, this is worth the 90 minute drive from any of the above cities. The drive through the heart of the island is very beautiful. The Museu Arqueologic deals mostly with the pre-history and pre-Roman eras, but there is some Roman archaeology too. Non-flash photos are allowed. Guide book in several languages, but neither the French nor English books cover nearly as much as the actual Spanish displays. Leaving the museum for the actual archaeological site is also a beautiful 10 minute drive. The actual site is well preserved and seems well cared for, though signs on site are very limited. €3 entrance fee.

Son Fornes
Oct 2013 • Couples
Son Fornes is a superb Taliotic site and the nearby archaeological museum in Montuiri is the essential starting point for anyone wanting to know more about Pre/Post and Taliotic culture. Great little museum in an old mill at edge of the town and a really knowledgeable and helpful curator . Highly recommended.
