While the museum is really with a visit to really set the scene and get the historical background of the caves, the ravine itself is not great. We did a small hike in the ravine and another hike on the side of the mountain on a an easy paved path but the caves are very far up. The ones that are accessible are inside restaurants with very big lines. It was much more interesting to go to Cueva del Rey to see the caves where the North Africans who originally populated the island used to live.

Shorter than I expected, but still stunning. Lovely green ravine after the stark arid rock of the coast. Stop at the terrific Museo de Guyadeque close to the start of the drive. Entire museum is built into the rock and made to look like a cave system. Lots of information about the huge number of ancient cave dwellings in the raving & an excellent shop. Great drive up to the end. Lunch at the cave Restaurante Taboror Guyadeqye was fun.

We visited while touring the island, having heard it was an impressive sight. The road up the valley had us gasping at the views at every turn and was well worth the drive to get there.

If there is a ravine that you should visit on the island of Gran Canaria it is without a doubt this one
It is wonderfully preserved as it was in the past with its vegetation its inhabited caves and the primitive agriculture that the ancient settlers did
At the entrance to the ravine there is an interpretation center that must be visited to better understand all the peculiarities of the ravine
Nowadays some of the old caves have been transformed into bars and restaurants where it is worth stopping it is cold in summer and hot in winter
The road winds through the ravine leaving you stunned with all its surroundings rocks mountains and lush vegetation
Where the road ends there is a small town with typical canarian houses and a very good restaurant from there the views are spectacular

It’s very deep and so surprised me. The rock formations, the height, the colors, the little houses still on the mountain side and people live in them. Very beautiful

Scenic gorge. Quite short - around 6km. Still some cave dwellers in the cliffs, although bit more modern entrances nowadays.
Stopped in at the museum at the beginning of the gorge. Reasonably interesting but very small. Took us less than half hour so bit pricey at 5 euros but hopefully helps to support the local community.
Three busy rustic restaurants - popular with tour groups.
We managed to nab a roadside parking spot at the end of the gorge and walked 2.5km up the steep main track before turning left at the signpost to the caldera for an easier 1.5km on a rocky path. We didn't do the last steep 0.5km to the caldera rim as large black clouds gathered. Took us about an hour out and 50 mins back.
Much chillier here than the coast, so take a sweater or jacket.

Interesting to see how the mountains were adopted into homes...Tidy..landscaped...and fantastic. Another flavour of the Gran Canaria. There are a choice of a few restaurants....we ate at Restaurante Vega...DELICIOUS...amazing entrance and interior...views are incredible.

This baranco is very long. To get the most out of it I'd recommend heading to Montana de las tierras and starting out from there.
We drove but saw taxis which you could pick up from aguimes. There was also evidence of a bus service, although I'd want to check the timetable before relying on them, not sure how frequent the service is.
Once you've parked up you can follow the track up for as long as you like. It gives some great views of the area you've driven through. The trail also continues on through the baranco. We only had an hour of daylight so didn't go far. But looks like you could quite happily walk carry on for plenty a mile (although obviously check a map for trails).
Also on the road from aguimes to the mountain you'll see the interpretation centre for the valley. Sadly it was closed for technical reasons when were there (mid December 2019).

Worth the drive along the winding road to the end where there are a few restaurants. Views from up here are simply stunning. Walked a little way up a rocky path to gain more height and even better views. With the contrast of the sun and shade on either side of the valley. Then had lunch at restaurant la era, with stunning views.
Just before christmas the museum was shut so did not get to find out more about the cave dwellers and local walks which was a shame. There was only limited parking at first restaurant where there may have been some info. But we could not stop there

We would like to do a walk in this area. Can anyone tell me a good route? We do walk in England and I would say we could do easy/ moderate difficulty. Just looking for a nice shortish ramble to relax and enjoy - nothing too demanding and easy route to follow
Thanks
