Located 400 metres high, on the Risco de Famara, the Mirador del Río is one of César Manrique's most representative architectural creations as it shows a series of artistic and architectural details and his eagerness to combine art and nature. It is located near the remains of an ancient military base that dates back to the end of the 19th Century. It is camouflaged on the rock in a way in which only a genius of Manrique's magnitude could conceive.

Just make sure that you re-check a weather forecast (rain is unlikely, but you REALLY need a sunny day) and I doubt you will be disappointed. While you can find a spot to enjoy the view of only slightly lower quality in the vicinity, the structure itself is worth a look should you be interested in architecture. The building is... More

Well worth the trip to the top northern tip of the island. The views across to La Graciosa are great. But mind the wind. Always blowing a gale up there.

No one can prepare you for this view - it is a work of art in itself. A real Wow. Do not miss going here. Plenty of room to park and the coffee shop also has glorious views and is reasonable (like most places in Lanzarote) Photographs could not possibly do this place justice!

The view is absolutely stunning (at least with good weather ;-) ). Period. If Manrique intended to have EUR 4.50 charged for entrance into what was built as a beautiful Cafeteria/Restaurant... that is another question. In case you want to avoid climbing/walking alternative free spots: it may be worth the money. You might consider the wonderful cafeteria/restaurant being too busy... More

A lovely designed building by Manrique, the view when you walk through the door is simply breath taking. If you have a fear of heights don't venture outside onto the viewing platform!

Without doubt the best in Lanzarote. Stunning location, worth the trip. Enjoy a beer and sandwich with the view.

Drove up just as a couple of coaches were leaving. Had light meal in cafe area which was nice and fresh and very reasonable. Views stunning. Whole lookout cleverly built into the hillside with clever Manrique design.

Apart from hiccup of not realising road nearby temporarily closed and being told off by policeman well worth visit. Views over La Grocosia really good. Also worth dropping down to town below to view cliffs from different perspective.

Mirador del Rio provides the visitor with a stunning view from heights, 500 metres above the sea level. You can look at the views through a window or outside, from a balcony. During sunny days (which are typical to Lanzarote) the landscapes are truly impressive. We combined our visit to this attraction with a visit to the volcanic caves and... More
